Under the Big Sky Festival, 2004
Funded
by the Ontario Arts Council, the third annual "Under the Big
Sky" festival/parade in Summer Beaver this year featured a
short drama inspired by the local legend of Windigo. David Osawabine
from Debajehmujig was the lighting, sound and production manager,
with set and costume designer Christine Williston. At the centre
of the festival was Moses Amik Beaver, artist co-ordinator, children's
programmer, commuity liason and acting producer. The festival indluded
stilt walkers in costume; children's costumes; staf shakers; ladies
powwow drum group; Windigo drama with big stage props; the parade
and endging with a spectacular Eagle fire sculpture. Each community
member present was encouraged to put on paper into the back of the
eagle something they wanted to eliminate from their lives or a letter
to a loved one who was passed on.
